IT DUMPED TODAY AT JAY PEAK

Life comes at you fast! Yesterday I skied SNIRT at Sugarbush and today I skied powder at Jay Peak. Though it may be April 27, the snow came down heavy today at the East’s snowiest ski area. At times, the snowfall rates were some of the heaviest I’ve personally experienced all winter, which was wild! In total, I’d say the mountain picked up around six inches of snow during the ski day.

I got to Jay around 10:15 and met up with TV Matt. Y’all may remember him from the last time we skied together, which was at Pico Mountain back in January. TV Matt has that nickname because he’s a meteorologist on TV. Anyways, the snow had just started falling when we headed up the mountain and it didn’t let up all day.

Today was the last day for Tramside operations this season and thanks to wind, all that was spinning over there was the beginner lift so we spent our day skiing Stateside. Both the Bonaventure Quad and Jet Triple were spinning with access to 21 runs, including Kitz Woods and Hell’s Woods.

To start the day, the snow was on the heavier side everywhere. It wasn’t unbearably heavy, but it wasn’t powder and it was a little sticky. As the day progressed, some runs turned powdery, especially Northway off the Bonaventure Quad, which was likely the best quality snow I’ll ski until November or possibly even December.

As mentioned, there were two glades in play. I’d say the coverage on Kitz Woods is still decent, especially with today’s snow. The secondary layer was icy, but the top layer of new snow helped make it not too much of an issue. There were some spots where you could see some stuff poking through, but it was avoidable. Hell’s Woods is really starting to thin out so you had to be a little more careful with your line, but it was definitely skiable and I didn’t hit any rocks or anything during our multiple passes through there. Were the glades amazing today? No, but they were open with fresh snow coming down on April 27 so I’m not going to complain!

Hard to not be smiling on a day like today!

Overall, today was a pretty epic ski day and it’s a good example of why you shouldn’t give up on the ski season when April rolls around. Sure, the ski season is starting to wind down, but that doesn’t mean there can’t be quality days. I know I’ve had multiple awesome days this month!

Never Quit Skiing,
