POST-CHRISTMAS GLADE DAY AT JAY PEAK
When I woke up this morning I didn’t want to go skiing. I was feeling tired, and thinking about how nice a lazy day at home would be. While that may have been nice, the reality is we’ve got some weather coming to the Northeast on Monday and Tuesday that could impact the ski days. For that reason, after a few hours of contemplating, I finally decided to head to Jay Peak. Thank goodness I did, because conditions were great! Plus, I also got to pick up my season pass holder gift. More on that later.

I got to the mountain at noon, which is when I was able to pick up my season pass holder gift. They were spinning all of their lifts today, and basically all of the mountain was open, minus some trails they were making snow on. We’re in a peak holiday period, and the lines at the Tram and the Flyer reflected that. As a result, after taking a couple of runs off the Flyer, I stuck to the Bonaventure Quad most of the afternoon. Sadly, I never made it to the Jet, but it is what it is. I had a great time elsewhere on the mountain.

Jay Peak’s received 219 inches of snow this season, with 21 inches of that falling in the last week. Needless to say, coverage is great everywhere on the mountain, including the trees. I don’t typically ski groomers when I'm at Jay Peak, aside from using them to get to the trees, and the base, but the groomers I did ski today were mostly packed powder, although some high traffic areas were scraped off.

The trees were awesome today. With it being a holiday period, and me getting there at 12, I thought the snow would for sure be packed down, but to my surprise there was still some powder to be found. Glades that were particularly great today include Andre’s Paradise, North Woods, and the Expo Glade. All three of those had a fair amount of powder to play in.

Let’s talk about the season pass holder gift. Every year, Jay Peak gives its pass holders a gift. This year we received a nice tote bag, a hat, some stickers, a metal cup, and a coupon book. The coupon book contains a variety of coupons for the mountain, such as free tickets to the movie theatre, discount lift tickets for friends, and more. They also throw a party for season pass holders ever year. I missed it this year, but I went last year. There’s live music, free food, and you get a couple of free drink tickets. It’s all a very nice gesture, and I certainly appreciate it.
