HOW I PAID A DOLLAR IN QUARTERS FOR A LIFT TICKET TO SKI TODAY

Today was the 100th day of the ski season for Titus Mountain in northern New York. It was also their last day of the season. To celebrate hitting triple digit ski days, yesterday they announced that lift tickets today would cost just 100 pennies or $1. That’s right. A lift ticket today was only a dollar.

Their Facebook post yesterday announcing tickets would only be $1.

I’ve skied at two free ski areas this season, but both of those were very small community run rope tow hills with a run or two. Titus Mountain is a full on ski area/resort. I hadn’t been to Titus Mountain since December, and I had a dollar, so after seeing that today would cost a dollar, I decided to head there this morning. After pulling in to the parking lot, I checked my car for some quarters, found four, and a dime, just in case I needed a little extra for tax, and I headed to the lift ticket desk to buy my ticket. Turns out, four quarters was all that was needed, and I had successfully bought a lift ticket in 2026 for a dollar in quarters.

The quarters, and dime, I found in my car to pay for my lift ticket.

For those not familiar with Titus Mountain, it’s located in Malone, New York, not too far from the Canadian border. It’s not the most challenging mountain out there, but it’s great for families, and there’s some fun terrain to be had, especially the woods and the Upper Mountain.

With it being the last day of the season, they had 14 of 54 runs open, all of which were in the lower and middle mountain. Upper was not open today. They had four lifts spinning, including a beginner lift and a magic carpet. It was a winter-like day, with temperatures in the 20s, and there was snow in the air at times.

I thought the conditions today were pretty good considering the weather we’ve seen in the region over the last 48 hours. On Thursday, it was warm during the day, then it rained that night, and then there was a freeze going in to Friday. This typically yields fast and firm ski conditions, and that’s exactly what happened, but the top layer of snow was soft enough to hold an edge today, so it wasn’t terrible. There were some firmer spots out there, but they didn’t give me much issue.

The Face.

Even though it was closing day, Titus still had a park set up on Ridge Run, which was cool to see. I’m not someone who does anything in the park, so I just cruised through, however. My favorite runs of the day were probably Maple Run and The Face, primarily because those were the most difficult runs open.

I’ve skied at Titus Mountain twice this season. The first time was on opening weekend in December. They were only charging $20 that day, and then of course the second time was closing day for a dollar. All in, I’ve paid $21 to ski Titus this season. $10.50 per day. Not bad! Shoutout to Titus for the great deal on both days. I do have the Indy Pass for next season, so I’m looking forward to visiting mid-season when the woods have the goods.
