LAPPING THE JET AT JAY PEAK
It’s May and that means it’s The Jet season at Jay Peak. This run is always the last run standing, and this year is no different. With The Jet being the only run open today, it was a little crowded at times, but the spring slush made for a lot of fun.
Base of the Jet Triple.
There was a decent little crowd in the Jet parking lot when I got there this morning. It wasn’t busy by any means, but there were more people there than last weekend. The weather was nice, so people were grilling and hanging out. I probably could’ve worn shorts today, but there was a little chill in the air, so I stuck with my ski pants and my jacket. All of my vents were open, though, and I didn’t have on gloves.

With only The Jet open, it was a pretty simple setup. Ride the Jet Triple, ski down The Jet, and repeat. While the run was a little crowded at times, particularly up high, there was never a line for the lift, which was nice. The very top of The Jet was skiable, but it was in pretty nasty shape with plenty of rocks poking through. This wasn’t a huge section of the run, though, so you got to the main base of snow pretty quickly. Jay Peak plans to be open next weekend, and I imagine we will be walking down to the snow on The Jet at that time.
Bare spot down low.

A pair of Snowskater’s.
Outside of the top being nasty, there was a spot or two down low that were thin/bare, but the run is still in pretty good shape for this late in the season. The snow today provided a workout. It was very soft and bumpy. That said, there were some firm spots to be found where the snow had been scraped off. Overall, for May 9, it was pretty darn good skiing.
Provided I don’t wake up late, which is certainly a possibility, I’m planning to head to Killington tomorrow to be humbled by the bumps on Superstar.
