LEGENDARY NOVEMBER SKI DAY AT JAY PEAK
It’s been a November to remember at Jay Peak. The mountain has received ample snow this month, allowing the seasonal snowfall to climb well past 100 inches before the calendar even hit December. If you’re an East Coast skier, you probably already know this, because a bunch of people have been climbing up and skiing the mountain in recent weeks, and posting about it on social media. The photos and videos have been incredible, particularly given the time of year.

As a Jay Peak pass holder, I’ve been chomping at the bit to get out there. The mountain opened last weekend for two days, but I had a feeling it would be a circus (it was) so I skied Whiteface and Sugarbush instead. Yesterday, it finally opened for daily operations for the season and I decided I'd make the trek today. I was a little worried about how crowded it would be, but I ended up getting a decent parking spot and the singles line moved pretty quickly. I'd say I never waited more than 10 minutes and sometimes it was only five minutes. For how good the skiing was, the wait was WELL worth it.

They were spinning four lifts, including the Jet and the Bonaventure Quad, which provided access to 31 runs and glades. Tramside was not open. Though they only had 31 runs open, I can confidently say the entire mountain is skiable from top-to-bottom. Coverage is amazing everywhere. I didn’t worry at all about rocks, etc., today.
I spent most of my day skiing the trees, but I did ski some groomers and cut trails to reach the glades. Conditions everywhere were fantastic. It was essentially a powder day. Despite a little warm spell this week, Jay has received more snow since and it was actively snowing today, so all of the terrain was covered in quite a bit of light and fluffy snow.

The glades were loaded with snow and I found myself floating through some of them like a dream. The snow was that good. It genuinely felt like February out there and that’s not an over-exaggeration. If you’d told me a month ago I’d be skiing Timbuktu, Canyonland, Expo Glade, Upper River Quai, CanAM and more on Thanksgiving weekend, I’d have told you that would never happen, but here we are.

Today was spectacular at Jay Peak. I've only been seriously skiing for six or seven seasons now, but I think it’s safe to say that today was the greatest November ski day I’ve ever had. Jay Peak is the snow capital of the east and it certainly lived up to that title. This is a day I’ll think and talk about for years to come.
