A WINDY DAY AT WHITEFACE
Today was a short one for me. For one, it was a windy day at Whiteface and multiple lifts were closed due to wind, but also because I hurt my toe last Monday and then re-aggravated it yesterday at Jay Peak. As a result of both of those things, I got a few runs in and then headed out. To be honest, though, my toe hurt a lot and I think it was for the best that it was a short day.

I got on the snow just as the wind holds went in to effect, so all they had spinning while I was there was the Falcon Flyer in the Bear Den Learning Center, as well as the Face Lift. They did manage to get the gondola and the Summit Quad open again later in the day, but I’d already left by the time that happened. They had a total of 20 runs open.
The snow off the Falcon Flyer and the Face Lift was good. There were some firm spots here and there, but nothing like there was when I skied Whiteface on Friday. Despite there only being a few runs open during my time skiing, the trails themselves weren’t too crowded. It probably helped a lot that the Bear Den area was open.

They were still making snow in a few areas on the mountain, most notably on Lower Valley and Fox. I also noticed the snow guns running on Flying Squirrel in the Bear Den area. I’m looking forward to Lower Valley opening as it will give us another way down the mid-mountain. I like Boreen, but when it’s the only thing open it can get cramped in some places.

For now, I’m planing to ski tomorrow, but if my toe still hurts like it does I may need to take the day off. I’m not sure how I hurt my toe last Monday. I felt no impact with the tip of my boot. After taking Wednesday and Thursday off for Thanksgiving, it felt a lot better going in to the weekend. On my first run at Jay Peak yesterday, my boot was a little loose. I could feel it and stopped halfway to fix it. Unfortunately, the damage was already done and now there’s a lot of blood under the toenail and my toe is swollen again. It is what it is and it’ll get better in the coming days and weeks.
