SNOWY AFTERNOON SKIING WHITEFACE
We’ve got a clipper system sweeping through the Northeast right now. The storm entered the region in the afternoon, shortly after I got to Whiteface. It started snowing on my first run, and it didn’t let up the rest of the day. It wasn’t a powder afternoon or anything like that, as I'd say it probably only snowed an inch while I was skiing, but it was enough to freshen things up and make for some fun conditions.
Upper Northway.
Mountain Run.
River Run.
In comparison to what its been, it was a fairly mild afternoon with temperatures probably in the upper teens or 20s at the base. There wasn’t much in the way of wind and it was overall a pretty comfortable time skiing. They had 87 runs open, and all lifts, except the Freeway Lift and the Little Whiteface Double, were spinning. With snow coming down, conditions were great. There were some typical firm spots here and there, where the snow had been scraped or blown off, but overall the top layer was a little bit of powder and beneath that was packed powder.
Lower Mackenzie.
Lower Skyward.
Upper Skyward.
Paron’s Run.
The whales that were out on Paron’s Run and Lower Mackenzie yesterday are gone. Both runs were groomed last night and they skied great. It was nice to finally be able to cruise down Lower Mackenzie, in particular. I mentioned yesterday that there’s a major race going on at Whiteface, so some terrain was closed, and that was the case again today. Closed terrain included Upper and Lower Thruway, Upper Parkway, and Draper’s Drop.
Victoria.
Upper and Lower Wilderness.
Tomorrow will most likely be a powder day. Part of me wants to go over to Smuggler’s Notch in the afternoon. Every winter I go there a time or two after work. I’ve not done it once this season, so maybe tomorrow is finally the day. That said, I'm blacked out at Whiteface next week, so I may be at Smuggler’s Notch a few times after work next week anyways. I don’t know. We shall see. It’ll depend on how much snow they get, and how I’m feeling tomorrow afternoon.
Never Quit Skiing,
