SOFT SNOW AND GREAT VIEWS AT WHITEFACE
The first Tuesday of the ski season was a great one. As per usual during the week, I got to Whiteface after work at about 1 PM. The place was empty. That’s a real shame, because it was another beautiful afternoon on the mountain. The conditions were pretty good, too.

I almost didn’t ski today. My legs are tired from the last few days and I somehow managed to hurt my right big toe yesterday. The nail has blood under it and the toe is swollen, although not as bad as it was last night. That may be too much information, but this is my ski blog. Anyway, I debated all morning on taking the day off, but I eventually decided that if I was going to take a day off, it should be tomorrow, which is the day before Thanksgiving, that way I get back-to-back days off, as I won’t be skiing on Thanksgiving. I don’t regret my decision to ski, but I definitely felt that toe a time or two today while on the mountain.
As has been the case the last few days, they were spinning the gondola and the Summit Quad. There were 14 runs open. It was a relatively mild day on the mountain with above-freezing temperatures. It was warm enough that I didn’t even need to wear a face covering. However, it wasn’t warm enough that there was any meaningful melting occurring.

With the mild temperatures, the snow was nice and soft across most of the mountain. Higher up you could find some packed powder. I found the snow to be most enjoyable on Paron’s Run, the Follies, Summit Express and Upper Valley. Those last two runs aren’t something I’d normally pick as top runs of the day, but for whatever reason, I was feeling myself on them. Each time I passed through, I was laying down some real nice carves. Unfortunately, the Face Lift wasn't spinning so there was no one there to witness my greatness (ha!).

As I mentioned, I’m likely to take tomorrow off to give myself some rest, but it’s not set in stone. I may wake up and decide to ski after work. Either way, I'm definetly not skiing on Thanksgiving. If I don’t post tomorrow night, then you can expect the next post to be on Friday night. It’s possible I may go up to Jay Peak on Friday afternoon. We shall see.
And on that note, Happy Thanksgiving!
